I was in the slower final heat and did not fare so well. I didn’t understand much of the structure of what was going on, but it was a lot of fun nevertheless. Surprise of the night, Michal Ballaban’s 21.24. Drive of the race, for sure.

The final results were based on position, not lap times. I think I ended up fourth in my final heat. Were you there? What did you think?

I’d love to participate someday... I’ll make sure to be around NYC next time this happens :)

I’m gonna go ahead and guess that the track is not very technical though? Laptimes are VERY close...

The karts weren’t really much faster than the course so right foot control didn’t matter. There was one key braking point and were two spots where the exit really mattered, but for the most part it was lift, turn in, gas so there isn’t really much room for improvement past a certain point. There was also maybe up to a half-second variation between the karts. For example, in practice I was doing 21.4 after 21.4 and couldn’t get the kart any faster. I kept track of that kart number and most of the other people who got stuck with it reached the same limit of 21.4 I did even though they and I were running faster in other karts.

I finished second in the same heat as you, ran you up the inside of the first turn at the start. I have some go pro footage I can email you.

Oh, sweet. Send me a youtube link or jesse.a.shaffer@gmail.com. My kart and I had nothing for you guys in that last heat. Kart 29 and I did not get along.

Ahh, you were one of the two cars I got by going in to the very first corner. My fault for the line I chose while knowing full well what was coming up behind me.

Yes, I had the inside advantage and was able to push a little wider thanks to your line....It really helped me out lol! It was straight up mario kart in the first 2 laps!

Did you have a line of cars on your tail for pretty much the enrire race? If so, I was two cars behind you.

I think so, I was focused on not getting passed. I had a slow kart that round and since it was a position race I held 2nd by all means, the guy directly behind me (3rd place) was giving me a run for my money. I made up some space after the back section around to the chicane but had to take the very inside on the tough right hand turn after the straight to preserve my spot and would get bumped. The defensive strategy doesn’t make for good lap times.

Yeah, the only overtaking point if on line was into T1. Off-line there was no grip. You were covering the inside, and the guy between us would occasionally attempt to sneak into it, but you had that door closed. I was trying to do the same to him the whole time.

I made most of my passes throughout the night at T5 before the chicane. There was a sneaky inside line you could slide into if you brake late. Other than those two spots, passing was slim.

T5 being the hairpin before the front straight? Yeah, I liked that spot too. If someone took a wide line into it, they weren’t going to have speed on the front and there was more grip on the inside anyway.

Yes, the 180 right hander by the briefing area. The grip was never a problem for me but you could sneak a pass by braking late.

The line wasn’t very technical, no. It’s a 20 second course, so of course the times are gonna be a little tight. To get under a 21.5 you had to get pretty confident. There were faster times in the karts than what we pulled, for sure. The record for the year is a 20.192. We were nowhere close.
